Political trust and religiosity components
Keywords:

Political trust is essential for democracy and is usually related to religiosity. It is generally thought that the relation is mediated by social capital, but this is not certain, also, religiosity is made up of several different components some of them may or may not be related to political trust. Three nationally representative surveys are used to investigate which components of Mexican religiosity are related to political trust. It was found that religious affiliation is not relevant; however, attending mass and belief in hell showed strong relationships with political trust. This allows us to know which religiosity variables should -or should not- be considered in political studies. Furthermore, the idea of social capital seems likely, but in a non-institutional way, and a conjecture is presented about the possible role of some religious beliefs in relation to a sense of final justice.Downloads
