Abstract

This paper analyzes the particularities of subjectivity and political praxis that are reproduced in the participation spaces of the municipality of Tlalpan. The guiding questions revolve around how given the changes in the political system clientelistic practices have been adapted to better suit the new political reality. To answer them, a qualitative study was carried out between 2015 and 2019 that included interviews with party leaders, town hall officials, intermediaries, district managers, as well as citizens linked to political networks. Based on the information gathered with these methods it is proposed that the means of civic participation are the product of political exchanges that are being expressed beyond the electoral sphere and that they are reproduced within the framework of political subjectivities and shared habitus that, even if they are questioned in the democratic discourse, in practice they are assumed true and reproduced as a template of what is possible.
