Abstract

This text analyzes the labor migration of Latin American women who enter paid domestic work in Spain and the United States, highlighting the feminization of these migratory flows since the late 20th century. From a gender and intersectional perspective, it examines the structural causes of this migration, such as occupational segregation, low wages, and the demand for care work in receiving countries, as well as the conditions of vulnerability that these workers face. Likewise, it addresses the phenomenon of global care chains and transnational motherhood, facilitated by new information technologies. It reviews regulatory frameworks, such as ILO Convention 189, and the role of domestic workers’ organizations in defending their rights. The migratory contexts of Spain and the United States are contrasted, where informality and the threat of deportation exacerbate exclusion.
