Abstract

This research will try to tackle and analyze, in the framework of the intermediate July 2009 electoral process in Mexico, the causes, motivations and the construction, of what was called the “void vote movement”, focusing on the State of Jalisco. In order to achieve the above, I contextualize briefly both the social and the political environment in the national ambit, which originated the idea of voiding the vote; I will also dwell on the construction of said movement. Likewise, I use qualitative and quantitative tools to figure out the results obtained in the ballots and therefore, the impact the voiding movement had. Finally, I present the face of the average void voter and reflect upon the present and future of the movement.
