Abstract

This essay is a reflection on the nature and limits of social action based in the analysis of four paradoxes within contemporary society having to do with the representation of cultural minorities in the democratic system; the development of sustainable projects; the international mobility of people; and the scope of political action itself. These paradoxes are, largely, a product of the anchoring of globalization in specific places having their own particular history, geographic and economic circumstances, in the face of which local actors are impelled to formulate responses in order to improve their life circumstances.
