Abstract

Las principales encuestas comparativas deopinión pública miden el apoyo populara la democracia a través de preguntasdirectas sobre la democracia en abstracto.Sin embargo, como los ciudadanos puedentener ideas divergentes de democracia,no sabemos hasta qué punto las preguntasestándar captan su apoyo a la democracialiberal. Para resolver los problemas devalidez que sufren las mediciones directasy abstractas, proponemos vincularlas conpreguntas indirectas más concretas sobreprincipios e instituciones democráticos.Pare este fin, empleamos la técnica estadísticade análisis de conglomerados quenos permite captar perfiles ideológicoscomplejos e contradictorios. Demostramoslo fructífero de este enfoque trazandoun mapa de “demócratas iliberales”en México, con base en la Encuesta Nacionalsobre Cultura Política 2005.
